LAUNCH OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME

LAUNCH OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME

The Deputy Head of the National Coordination Unit, Dr. Gergő Korponai and the Ambassador of Switzerland to Hungary, Jean-Francois Paroz on 31 January signed the Support Measure Agreement of the Research Programme Hungary.

The programme has a budget of nearly HUF 4.6 billion, including national co-financing.

On the occasion of the official signing ceremony, Dr. Gergő Korponai said that the programme will contribute to Hungary's economic growth and competitiveness by strengthening the research excellence and innovation capacity of Hungarian research institutions, universities and enterprises, and by promoting research and innovation cooperation with international partners. The area is important for us, as it serves to further strengthen Swiss-Hungarian relations.

Ambassador Jean-Francois Paroz identified research as one of the key areas for the second Swiss Contribution, as investment in research and innovation contributes to economic growth, social cohesion and job creation. He highlighted that the conclusion of the Support Measure Agreement is an important step in strengthening research cooperation between Hungary and Switzerland, as well as with other EU countries. He welcomed the close cooperation with Swiss partners, including the Swiss National Science Foundation and the scientific organisation Innosuisse.

Dr. Borbála Schenk, Head of the International Department of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office, highlighted in her speech that the launch of the second Swiss Contribution opens up great opportunities for the Hungarian research ecosystem. She also explained that with the help of Swiss partners, their expertise and by sharing their international research network, Hungarian stakeholders will be able to integrate more easily into the European Research Area.

This means that the Support Measure Agreements for all 7 of our programmes have been signed. Out of 10 support measures, only 2 projects remain to be adopted.
