Programme Operator: National Research, Development and Innovation Office

Programme objective:

The Programme will contribute to the economic growth and competitiveness of Hungary by strengthening the research excellence and innovation capacities of Hungarian research organizations, universities and enterprises and by facilitating the research and innovation cooperation with international partners. All Programme Components will enhance the relations of the Hungarian research and innovation communities with leading RDI actors and networks in the European Research Area and improve the alignment with ERA policy objectives.

Swiss support: CHF 9,6 million

National co-financing: CHF 1,69 million

I. PROGRAMME COMPONENT - ELI-ALPS cooperation

Programme Component Operator: National Research, Development and Innovation Office

The aim of the programme component is to promote the integration of the Szeged-based ELI-ALPS laser centre into international networks, and it is to promote and attract researchers to perform their at this research facility.

A further objective is to implement joint scientific projects using the ELI-ALPS infrastructure and to extend the infrastructure by implementing joint research and development projects using Swiss know-how. The infrastructure expansion could be achieved by relocating an existing Swiss workstation, upgrading an existing facility at ELI or building a new facility. Under the programme component, it is possible to support study visits of Hungarian researchers to Swiss laser facilities.

The programme component will support research organisations, universities, non-profit organisations and enterprises will receive support from ELI-ALPS to implement their research project.

II. PROGRAMME COMPONENT - Support for cooperation related to the EUROSTARS programme

Programme Component Operator: National Research, Development and Innovation Office

Swiss Partner: Innosuisse

The aim of the programme component is improve the innovation capacities and international competitiveness of Hungarian SMEs by strengthening their participation in the EUROSTARS programme, by improving the quality of services provided to Hungarian EUROSTARS applicants by learning from Swiss best practices, furthermore increasing the number of joint Hungarian-Swiss EUROSTARS projects.

The programme component will provide support for EUROSTARS project preparation events, brokerage events, company missions and mentoring programme.

The final beneficiaries of the programme component are the innovative SMEs, large companies, research organizations, universities and non-profit organizations.

III. PROGRAMME COMPONENT - Support of research infrastructure cooperation

Programme Component Operator: National Research, Development and Innovation Office

The aim of the programme component is to increase the Hungarian participation in international research infrastructures and the scientific knowledge of Hungarian researchers and to facilitate their integration into international networks and support their multidisciplinary scientific cooperation.

In the field of social sciences, the support would ensure the active involvement of the Hungarian researchers in international surveys, would help to develop domestic databases, the construction and operation of the infrastructure necessary for the management and archiving of databases and train the necessary human resources. In the medical field would enhance mutual collaboration and also support the dissemination and publication of research results important for the society.

The final beneficiaries of the programme component are research organizations, universities, enterprises and non-profit organizations.

IV. PROGRAMME COMPONENT - Multilateral joint research projects (MJRP) and / or mobility schemes

Programme Component Operator: Swiss National Science Foundation

The target of the programme component to build up long-term sustainable research and innovation partnerships between Hungarian and Swiss and other international partners with a view to, among other things, encourage joint participation in the Horizon Europe Framework Programme of the EU (H2020).

Working with successful Swiss research institutions under H2020 offers great opportunities to build up long-term strategic partnerships through joint partnership projects and joint publications. Joint participation in H2020 projects is most active in the fields of food and agriculture, research infrastructure, research fellowships, health, transport and environment. These areas can serve as future focus areas for the partnership programme.

Aim to support joint Swiss-Hungarian research and capacity building through the exchange of best practices and know-how by study visits, mentoring and training programmes, and exchange of experts.

The final beneficiaries of the programme component are research organizations, universities, enterprises and non-profit organizations.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PROJECT

Project Operator: Andrássy University Budapest (AUB)

Project title: Partnership between Andrássy University Budapest (AUB) and Swiss Universities

Project objectives:

The long-term goal of the project to strength the role of the Andrássy University Budapest (AUB) as a research centre and academic exchange with Switzerland.

Swiss support: HUF 290 million (CHF 0,7 million)
National co-financing: HUF 51 million (CHF 0,1 million)

SHORT INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT

The project aims to promote bilateral partnership aspects, such as exchanges with Swiss universities, research institutes and think tanks as well as include specific Swiss research experiences such as federalism, direct democracy, Europe’s security challenges or decentralization. The project is broadly related to topics of the Swiss Contribution, such as economic development.
