Where does the second phase of the Swiss Contribution stand? Summary of achievements
On November 8, 2022, Switzerland and Hungary signed an international agreement for the second phase of the Swiss Contribution, the third anniversary of which we celebrate in November 2025. In recent years, we have made steady yet rapid progress: significant advance payments have contributed to the launch of numerous projects, and support has been widely distributed to nearly 100 beneficiaries. We have already disbursed more than a quarter of the total support, which clearly demonstrates the effectiveness of our joint work, while transparent and predictable operations provide a solid foundation for further development. In the coming period, we will strive to maintain this momentum, ensure that the grants bring about tangible progress, and further strengthen cooperation between Switzerland and Hungary.
Our main achievements:
Of the total grant framework of more than HUF 38 billion available until 2029, we have so far contracted nearly HUF 30 billion, of which we have disbursed nearly HUF 9.3 billion. To date, approximately 70 civil society organizations have received support. The highest amount of support – HUF 3.5 billion – has been allocated to the National Ambulance Service to implement Hungary's largest life-saving program to date, which aims to improve the first aid skills of the civilian population and provide training in resuscitation; Geothermal developments will be implemented, enabling approximately 40 public buildings to be heated using renewable energy sources. We are providing nearly HUF 6 billion in support to a newly established venture capital fund that specifically assists micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises operating in the creative industry. Projects have also been launched to improve the quality of drinking water for nearly 40,000 residents living in disadvantaged regions. A complex hospice-palliative program has been launched to improve the quality of life of patients suffering from incurable diseases, which not only supports the activities of civil organizations, hospitals, and clinics working in the field, but also helps patients and their relatives.
